The skinny: On Thursday, the Vulcans welcome the Silverswords to Paiea Stadium in Keaau for the second time this season. The UH-Hilo men got their only win of the season Sept. 17 with 2-1 overtime victory. The Lady Vulcans won 1-0.
Jake Sagami sparked a 4-4 draw with HPU last Saturday with two goals, tying him for the team lead with Evan Bacani.
After scoring four goals in her first four games, Tiera Arakawa hasn’t netted a goal in the past three matches for the Lady Vulcans, who have scored eight goals in seven matches.

At Silversword Invitational
The skinny: Facing Division I competition last Saturday, Anna Baker-Mikkelsen set the pace for UH-Hilo again, finishing 70th at the 42nd annual Charles Bowles Willamette Invitational in Oregon.
Baker-Mikkelsen completed the 6K in 19:32. Ashlyn Cabatbat was the next Vulcan (173, 23:15), and Reyna Garcia Lopez (23:27.8), Kaylee Rapoza (23:42.4) and Cheyana
Crossman also ran for UH-Hilo. Each runner had a season-best and Cabatbat, Garcia and Crossman had personnel-bests.
Quotable: “I liked how the our 2-5 runners were close to each other as Coach Jaime (Guerpo) and I have been encouraging them to use each other to maximize there performance,” assistant coach Alan Ryan said. “I was most impressed with Cheyana’s performance. She has come a long way from the beginning of the season and is up with the rest of the team. A few seconds faster and she would be our No. 2 runner. I wouldn’t be surprised if she gets there in three weeks at our conference championships.”

The skinny: The Wahine rose a spot to No. 12 in the American Volleyball Coaches Association poll after extending their conference win streak to 25, and they were 21st in the first NCAA RPI list of the season released Monday.
On Thursday, UH faces a Matadors team that it has only lost to twice in 20 meetings.
The meeting with the 49ers could be for sole possession of first place.
Wahine senior hitter Nikki Taylor is first in the league in kills per set and fourth in the nation in points per set.

The skinny: After more than a month away from Oahu’s Waipio Peninsula Soccer Stadium, the Rainbow Wahine return to a pitch they’re unbeaten (5-0-1) on this season for four consecutive matches.
The Highlanders enter Thursday’s match having lost five in a row, with four of those losses coming by a goal.
Quotable: “There’s so much parity in the Big West that every game is a good game, and I’m looking forward to two more good games this weekend,” Hawaii coach Michele Nagamine said. “Making sure that our trainings are done with that game-intensity and match-speed in mind, that’s really important to us this week.”
